Exploring how the imagination shapes the life of the mind

A practice · an ethos · a way of life

I explore the same sets of questions — about the imagination, myth, aesthetic judgement, and the limits of language — across a range of genres: philosophy, fiction, poetry, screenplays, and games.

About

A single attention, taking the form each subject asks for

Ammon Allred teaches philosophy at the University of Toledo, working in Continental thought, German Idealism, and the philosophy of mythology. The same questions run underneath everything — about myth, the sacred, and what happens to language at its limits — and they don't stay inside the discipline.

So the work moves: from Schelling and Hölderlin into a literary novel, from a poetry collection into a screenplay after Kierkegaard, from a book on the world's omphaloi into a tabletop game with its own mythology. Less a set of identities than one practice, worked through whatever form will hold it.
